The Save Our Sick Kids Foundation is pleased to award Dr. Tempe Chen of the Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Long Beach and Dr. Thomas Walsh of the Cornell Medical School a grant for:

A Collaborative Study for Rapid Diagnosis and Therapeutic Monitoring of Invasive Fungal Infections in Immunocompromised Children with Cancer: Early Detection of CNS Mycoses.

This work will study early detection methods of a fungal infection in children undergoing cancer treatment, specifically in the brain and spine.  Early detection of this infection will provide a better opportunity to cure this life-threatening infection.

Our thanks to the following donors that are funding this work:

  • Ms. Debbie Bickerstaff  in memory of Ethan Briggs

  • Luke Tatsu Johnson Foundation

Luke was a student at Wilson High. However, he didn't get the chance to graduate because he lost his fight with leukemia in June of 2016. After this tragedy the family found a way to keep his memory alive through what Luke loved: golf. The Luke Tatsu Johnson Foundation raises money for golf scholarships and childhood cancer cures. At the end of June 2018, Todd and Rena Johnson awarded 8 students at Wilson High scholarships. This year, SOS Kids is honored to have been chosen as their charity of the year. The Luke Tatsu Johnson Foundation has donated $20,000 so that SOS Kids can further its research to help save more kids.
